Individual Therapy for bodybuilders & physique athletes
Why bodybuilders need therapy
Bodybuilding requires an extraordinary level of discipline and personal investment. Athletes often dedicate years to refining their physique through rigorous training, nutrition, and competition prep. Along the way, however, the psychological demands of the sport can become just as intense as the physical ones.
Many bodybuilders quietly struggle with challenges such as body or muscle dysmorphia, binge-restrict eating patterns, post-show blues, perfectionism, and managing emotions during the pressures of prep. These experiences are more common in physique sports than many people realize and can begin to drain the passion that once fueled the journey.
A coach helps guide training, nutrition, posing, etc. A psychologist helps athletes maintain a strong body image, create a helpful relationship with food, manage stress, and build a resilient mindset.
Seeking psychological support isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s another way serious athletes invest in their performance, longevity, and overall well-being.
Why work with a psychologist who understands bodybuilding
Bodybuilding is a unique sport with psychological demands that many people outside the physique world don’t fully understand. The intense focus on appearance, strict nutrition, competitive pressures, and identity tied to physique can create challenges that require more than general mental health support.
Working with a psychologist who understands bodybuilding means you don’t have to explain the culture of the sport or justify the goals that matter to you. Instead, therapy can focus directly on helping you manage the mental pressures of training and competition, strengthen your relationship with your body, and maintain psychological well-being while pursuing excellence in the sport you love.

What Coaches are Saying
Bodybuilding coaches see firsthand how mental health impacts performance, prep, and long-term well-being. Many coaches choose to refer their athletes to Dr. Luis Ordaz for psychological support alongside their training and nutrition guidance.

Coach John Thomas
@thebodybuildingveganLuis helped me overcome disordered eating from over 10 years of bodybuilding restriction that I never thought could be fixed. I came in skeptical, and now Luis is the first person I send my current competitors to when they reveal they struggle with disordered eating as well. This is something that can be fixed with the right support, and I trust Luis with my family, close friends, and business partners.
Coach Nicole Ferrier
@nicoleferrierfitnessBodybuilders are more prone to developing disordered eating but many competitors have a deep passion for the sport. Luis is a rare find who understands this dynamic fully and doesn’t judge you for your fitness goals. For competitors, if your mindset isn’t right you won’t reach your stage goals. Delaying getting help is just delaying getting better.
